Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Creating excel trackers for conditions to development.
Drafting planning application documents.
Policy reviews of local and country wide policy.
keeping up to date on planning news.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I managed a small team during consultation analysis and was given ownership of a shared resources area to provide my team with knowledge of learning opportunities and easier access to useful documents.

I spoke to my line manager on a bi-weekly basis, checking in on my workload, type of work and to vary colleagues I worked with to gain a broader experience.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company is very welcoming and has a good ethos behind it. The push for research and the ability to submit your own proposal to get funding from the company was refreshing as well as the door always open attitude of everyone there.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have enjoyed working with my team and learning what they do however i found the profession not for me. I enjoyed my time at Arup and will look into other departments to see if there is something else within the company I would like to try.
