Job Description

Our client, a real estate investment manager, is recruiting an IT Support Apprentice to join their internal Technology team. The role is based at their London headquarters.

The Technology team works with their managed IT service provider to support staff and maintain the technology used across the business. You will be the first point of contact for IT queries in the office and via the IT mailbox, working closely with onsite engineers and the Head of Technology. This is a hands-on role combining practical work with structured learning. You will train in day-to-day operations, and your responsibilities will grow as your skills develop.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for staff IT requests, resolving issues within your training and access, and escalating where specialist support is needed
  • Troubleshoot Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams), Windows, laptops and peripherals, including basic connectivity and remote access issues
  • Use the service desk to log and track tickets, keep users updated and follow requests through to completion
  • Build, configure and deploy laptops using Windows Autopilot and Intune, making sure devices are enrolled, secure and ready for use
  • Set up and troubleshoot corporate mobile devices through Intune. Retire or wipe a device only after checking ownership and authorisation, and escalate lost or stolen devices straight away
  • Support joiner, mover and leaver processes by preparing and collecting equipment, creating and updating user accounts, and adding or removing Entra group memberships, only once the required approval is in place and recorded
  • Help with password resets and sign-in or multi-factor authentication issues, after verifying the user’s identity under the agreed procedure
  • Maintain accurate asset records and coordinate hardware repairs, replacements and warranties with suppliers
  • Support the Head of Technology with internal projects, device rollouts, testing and staff communications, and give updates at weekly review meetings
  • Create short support guides for recurring problems and follow internal controls and documented processes at all times

Desirable skills

  • A clear understanding of what a service desk does: logging, prioritising and escalating requests and a willingness to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship alongside practical work
  • Basic knowledge of networking (for example IP addressing, Wi-Fi and VPNs) and of how user accounts, groups and permissions control access. Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Exposure to device deployment, laptop setup, Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID or a service desk ticketing system, through study, personal projects, volunteering or work experience
  • Previous experience in an IT support role is desirable, but not essential
  • A methodical approach to problem solving, and knows when to ask for help
  • Communicates clearly, with patience and a helpful manner, with colleagues of all technical levels
  • Well organised, with attention to detail and accurate record keeping
  • Respects confidential information and follows security procedures

The entry requirements for this programme are as follows

  • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above)
  • Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in a similar subject

Working hours

37.5 hours per week

Benefits

  • Competitive market salary (including a full discretionary annual bonus)
  • Health and wellness benefits (free access to mental health support/counselling services)
  • Private company pension
  • Professional development and support (commitment to supporting continuous professional development for growth and progression)
  • Team building events/socials (including an annual company ski trip, team outings, internal ad hoc celebrations and company-sponsored events/parties)
  • Volunteering and community engagement opportunities

Future prospects

90% of QA apprentices secure permanent employment after completing: this is 20% higher than the national average.
