Designed to develop individuals who are moving into a management or supervisory role for the first time and wish to develop their people management skills.
Occupation Summary
The broad purpose of this role is to provide leadership with operational or project responsibilities. Team leaders manage or supervise individuals, teams, or elements of a project, or a combination of these. They offer direction, instructions, and guidance to achieve set goals. They are vital for the smooth running of an organisation’s functions and are often responsible for ensuring that these are correctly administered and maintained in line with legislation and the organisation’s procedures.

Knowledge
- Manage performance, projects, time, and resources to meet operational goals.
- Understand how to identify learning needs and support improvement.
- Know the rules, policies, and laws that affect their role and the organisation.
- Develop skills in leadership, communication, and working with others.
- Learn how to manage change, budgets, and promote fairness and inclusion.
- Understand responsibilities and how role fits into the wider strategy.
- Learn how to use data, IT systems, and consider internal and external factors such as sustainability.

Entry requirements
- Employers can set their own entry criteria, but candidates should be managing at least one person, either through direct line management or through project management.
Progression routes
- Successful apprentices can progress onto higher-level management and leadership programmes.
Key information
- Level (At end of programme): Level 3
- Maximum Duration: 15 months
- Available Funding: £5,000 funding band maximum available through the Apprenticeship Levy. Employers that do not pay the Levy will fund 5% of the funding band maximum.
