Job Description

Supply Chain Level 2 Apprenticeship

Our two‑year Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship is designed to give you the skills, knowledge and experience you need to start a successful career in supply chain, logistics and warehouse operations. You’ll learn on the job, gain real responsibility from day one, and work towards a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification.

About the programme

As part of Programme HADES, Babcock supports the Royal Air Force across 12 military bases. In this apprenticeship, you’ll play an important role in providing the Ministry of Defence with the equipment, clothing and resources they need at RAF Valley.

You’ll rotate across several Supply areas, including Clothing, Barrack Stores, Fuels, the Technical Support Section, the Repairable Support Section and the Supply Accounting team. This breadth of experience will give you a solid understanding of how the full supply chain works and how each team contributes to RAF operations.

Day to day, you’ll support the care and organisation of equipment. This includes maintaining accurate location records, completing stocktakes, placing and progressing customer orders and helping to maintain the Unit Materiel Account in line with current regulations. You’ll also help uphold high standards of housekeeping, cleanliness and security.

You’ll be joining a supportive team, bringing a careful and accurate approach to your work and the motivation to learn new skills. It’s a practical, varied and rewarding role where you’ll gain specialist knowledge and make a genuine contribution to the RAF’s day‑to‑day capability.

Your education/training

Training takes place within the Supply Section at RAF Valley. This is entirely work‑based learning, supported by regular visits from an assessor from Grŵp Llandrillo Menai every four weeks for guidance and assessment. There’s no requirement to attend college, as all learning and evidence is completed online.

By the end of the apprenticeship, you will achieve a Pearson Edexcel Level 2 qualification in Warehousing and Storage.

Future prospects

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will move into a substantive position as a Supplier. In this position, you’ll build on the skills you’ve developed and take on greater responsibility within the Supply team, supporting the smooth running of operations at RAF Valley.

You may also have the opportunity to pursue higher-level qualifications to further your career within Babcock across a variety of roles and functions.

What you’ll need

  • A minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including English, Maths and a Science or Technology based subject.
  • Many of our apprenticeship programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which programmes you are eligible for. For this programme, you must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels on the government wesite.

What you’ll get

We will provide you with a supportive and engaging environment where you can grow your career.

In addition, you’ll benefit from:

  • Fully funded qualification
  • Personal development training and opportunities
  • Minimum 28 days holiday allowance including bank holidays
  • Competitive pension scheme
  • Employee share scheme
  • Flexible benefits including cycle to work scheme and employee shopping savings portal

You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our STEM outreach activities and volunteering opportunities, which our apprentices find incredibly rewarding.

Your career development

It’s hard to beat the variety of fantastic opportunities and experiences you’ll receive. You can expect real world encounters and exposure to exciting projects that will help you navigate where you want to take your career.

Plus, when you join us, you’ll be automatically enrolled onto our Apprentice Development Programme. Through a series of digital and face to face sessions, presented by wellbeing and performance experts and our external partners, we will equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to thrive and perform at your very best on your programme and beyond.
