Job Description

Metering Level 3 Apprenticeship

About your role

Your mission is to help us mend it: Smart meters are the in‑home technology opening the door to a greener, more sustainable future. By sending data in real time, they help customers see exactly how much energy they’re using – in pounds and pence – giving them the confidence to make informed choices and save money.

As a Metering apprentice, you’ll learn far more than how to install and repair meters. You’ll build the skills to explain, reassure and support customers, making sure they understand how to get the very best from their energy use.

At our award‑winning academies, you’ll be supported every step of the way, absorbing expert knowledge, developing hands‑on skills and earning recognised qualifications. Working alongside experienced engineers who are there to coach and encourage you, you’ll soon be visiting homes in your local area, helping people feel comfortable with new technology and more in control of their energy.

It’s a role where your technical ability matters - but so does your curiosity, your people skills and your desire to make a positive difference.

Skills you need to succeed:

  • 4 GCSEs, ideally including Maths & English, at grade C/4 or above or a recognised equivalent
  • A carefully considered CV that shows you have a genuine passion for learning a trade, able to demonstrate that you are mechanically or technically minded, & love providing awesome customer service
  • A full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points
  • Availability to attend training at one of our four UK academies – with accommodation and travel provided if needed.

Here’s what's in it for you:

  • Starting salary of £16,698 rising to £20,273 at week 28, £23,850 (typically) at week 35, £26,528 at week 52, & £34,176 (typically) at week 60 of your apprenticeship
  • Once you have completed the full programme and aftercare support (typically at week 76) your salary will increase to £40,133 with bonus and add ons on top.
  • We also offer London Weighting Allowance ranging from £4,160 to £6,240 (dependant on location) for living or starting your day within London.
  • An expensed electric van for you to use for work, including an EV charge point where applicable & charge card.

We’re looking for talented people who live in the following part of the UK (with more to come later in 2026):

  • Scotland: Scottish Borders & Berwick Upon Tweed, Clydebank, Argyll & Bute, Dundee, Perth & Kinross, Dunfermline & Stirling, North Ayrshire & Paisley, Kilmarnock & East Renfrewshire, South & East Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway, Edinburgh & West Lothian, Inverness, Highlands & Islands, Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire
  • Northern England: Kendal & North Lancashire, Rochdale, Royton & Oldham, Newcastle Upon Tyne & Northumberland (north), Chester, North Cheshire, Wirral and Vale Royal
  • Wales: Anglesey & Flintshire, Chester, Wrexham and South Cheshire
  • Midlands: South Staffordshire & The Moorlands, Nottingham & Mansfield, Derbyshire & Chesterfield, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray & Leicester, Warwick & Stratford‑upon‑Avon, Birmingham & Solihull, North Staffordshire and South Cheshire, Lincoln & Skegness, Northampton & Milton Keynes
  • East England: Peterborough & Fenland, Cambridge & North Suffolk, North Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire, Chelmsford & Brentwood
  • South East England: Reading & Basingstoke, Abingdon & Oxford
  • South England: Southampton, Christchurch & Eastleigh
  • South West England: Cheltenham & Gloucester, Cornwall & West Devon, Plymouth & South Devon, Bath & North Somerset, Bristol & Chipping Sodbury
