Key Information

  • Salary: £19,000
  • GCSE Requirements: 5x GCSEs (or equivalent). Grades must be A*-C / 9-4 INCLUDING maths, English and a STEM subject
  • A-Level Requirements: 96 points from three A levels including mathematics and a Science based subject (three ‘C’ grades or equivalent) • Extended Diploma or National Extended Diploma in Engineering or a related subject with a Merit, Merit, Merit profile
  • Is a Driving Licence essential? No

Description

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience while working on innovative engineering projects, contributing to the design, development, and manufacturing of high-quality products. You'll work alongside experts to deepen your understanding of engineering principles, all while completing a degree-level apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Responsibility

  • Assist in engineering tasks to define product requirements, create designs, perform tests, and validate final hardware components.
  • Apply relevant standards and specifications under direct supervision.
  • Identify basic risks related to the design and manufacturing of products.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of engineering principles in one area of expertise.
  • Help maintain cleanliness, organisation, and health and safety standards in the workplace.

Technical Processes, Tools & Documentation

  • Support the development and integration of mechanical components using Computer-Aided Design (CAD), applying basic methods and concepts.

Technical Leadership

  • Under close supervision, assist in the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of mechanical components.
  • Problem Solving
  • Develop basic troubleshooting skills to identify and fix issues with equipment.
  • Apply a systematic and analytical approach to problem-solving with coaching and guidance.

Commercial Awareness

  • Understand the importance of estimating, budgeting, and managing costs in project execution.

Skills Required

  • Understanding and ability to apply core engineering concepts.
  • Ability to approach problem-solving in a systematic, disciplined, and analytical way.
  • Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and modeling techniques.
  • Ability to follow established procedures to solve problems.
  • Capable of researching and analyzing data effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Proficient with computers and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web browsers.

Working Arrangements

Work Pattern

Your contracted hours each week throughout your apprenticeship will be 39 hours Monday - Friday.

Location

This role is based at our CVD facility on Holbrook Lane, Coventry. It is recommended that you live within a commutable distance of this location.

Apprentice salaries increase annually with experience and are reviewed each September, depending on individual performance. Apprentices are also included in Parker Meggitt's bonus scheme, receiving a minimum of 2.5%, which may increase depending on overall company performance.

Training provided

Alongside your day role, you will work to complete your apprenticeship with your external training provider. This will give you the knowledge, training and external approval to do your job effectively.

Future Prospects

What does the future look like?

Upon successful completion of the programme — and subject to performance — you may have the opportunity to move into a permanent role within the team or business area where you completed your apprenticeship.

Other requirements

In order to apply, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old when the apprenticeship begins.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have been a UK/EU/EAA resident for at least the past three years prior to starting the apprenticeship.
  • Have completed full-time education before the apprenticeship is due to start. For this programme, you must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance.
