In this role, you’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for designing and delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget. You’ll work alongside experienced planners, quantity surveyors, accountants, operational colleagues, and other specialists, gaining hands-on experience and valuable insight into project delivery.This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to build a career in project management within the energy sector, contributing to projects that make a real difference.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers on the pre-construction process, including management of contractors and site visits.
  • Work with our procurement teams to assess, negotiate and award main works contracts.
  • Onboard Contractors in preparation for project delivery.
  • Provide regular reporting on project milestones, finance, safety performance and risk.
  • Ensure internal and external compliance with Health and Safety, Construction Design Management Regulations (CDM) and environmental legislation.
  • Support the onboarding of Contractors
  • Support elements of the works for the duration of Construction period.

Location

This role is primarily based at our Sellindge Interconnector site in Ashford, Kent. You will also be required to travel to other locations, including additional interconnector sites, training venues, and our head office in Warwick.During your apprenticeship, the majority of your formal training will take place at our Training Centre in Eakring, Nottinghamshire, which will involve frequent overnight stays away from home.When not attending training, you will be expected to be site-based, gaining hands-on experience and contributing to live projects.

About You

  • You should have or be predicted to achieve two A-Levels at grade C or above one of which must be in either Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Computing OR BTEC National Certificate OR Diploma Level 3 in either Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Computing or Business discipline at Grade Merit or Distinction.
  • You should have achieved five GCSEs at grade 4/C or higher including Maths and English Language or equivalent.
  • You must have a full valid UK driving license a minimum of 3 months before starting.
  • You will be flexible to travel when required, this includes frequent overnight stays away from home in pre-booked accommodation.
  • Be based at Sellindge (Ashford), Kent, with occasional travel to other Interconnector sites.
  • Committed to attend training across the UK including at National Grid's training centre in Eakring.
  • Have the ability to work to challenging deadlines, strong analytical skills and decision making
  • A self-starter with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
