Supply Chain Operations Graduate Scheme

Our two-year Supply Chain Operations Graduate Programme offers the opportunity to experience the breadth of what we do in a complex and diverse environment. During the programme, you’ll rotate across a variety of teams, including Supply Chain Services, Strategic Programmes, Production Services, Construction Services, and Route Services.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll get to work across the department, giving you the opportunity to widen your skillset and excel in our Supply Chain Operations areas. Along with personal development, formal training and internal training throughout the scheme, you’ll upskill yourself in the relevant skills and competencies required for Network Rail. Upon completion of the scheme, you will be able to use your experience to become a fully effective professional with the opportunity to continue learning and developing. Typical work activities include:

  • Analysing and negotiating spend across complex, high value and complex Engineering and operations contracts
  • Coordinating and planning resources and logistics for Rail movements
  • Assisting, creating and leading safety initiatives
  • Creating and delivering reports on business, engineering and commercial performance
  • Visiting multiple worksites, depots, machinery and trains
  • Assisting and managing project development and delivery

Who you are matters

You must have a degree in any subject at 2:2

We’re looking for driven go-getters with a thirst for learning and the ability to communicate with people of all levels. You should be comfortable working as a team, able to adapt to different situations and can approach problems in a creative way. You should also be willing to travel to different sites around the UK on occasion.

What you’ll get out of it

Once you’ve completed the scheme, you’ll become competent in Rail Operations (logistics), understanding complex contracts, basic vehicle engineering principles, what it means to create, live and breath a Safe Service, managing supply chains and building cross-industry relationships.

Whilst we can’t guarantee a permanent position post scheme, you will be eligible to apply for any suitable roles that become available. Our Graduates usually go on to secure senior roles within Network Rail. The skills you acquire will support your career development.
