Job Description
Electrical Engineering Summer Placement
Salary: £22,932 pro rata
Start date: June 2026
What you’ll be doing
You’ll gain practical engineering experience at one of Britain’s largest railway operating centres. We’re constantly striving to find smarter and more renewable energy technologies as we push ourselves to be greener and more resilient. You’ll work with the team that plays a leading role in this vital mission.
Depending on where you’re based and what interests you, expect to get your hands on cutting-edge technology and the chance to widen your knowledge of where the fields of signalling and telecommunications are going next.
Who you are matters
You’ll need to be in your penultimate year at university, and on track to achieve at least a 2:2 in an Institution of Engineering Technology (IET) accredited degree, and have the flexibility to occasionally travel to attend training opportunities at various locations.
We’re looking for logical thinkers with a creative approach to solving complex problems. You should be resourceful, hardworking and comfortable managing your own time. We would also like to see great communication skills.
What you’ll get out of it
We’re passionate about developing the next generation of talent that will come into our industry, and that means we’ll ensure you’re surrounded by supportive colleagues and receive coaching from senior staff.
We invest in our placement students because we believe they hold the potential to become the future of our business. Over the 10-weeks, you’ll get a rounded experience of what it takes to become an Electrical Engineer on our railways. Impress us, and we’ll consider you for next year’s Graduate scheme.
We matter to millions. You could too.
Information on the data we will hold on you, what we do with that data, who we will share your data with and your rights under General Data Protection Regulation can be found in our Privacy Policy. Alternatively we can send you a copy if you ask us to.
