Legal Placement
Primary Purpose of the Job
The role will support the Legal Team in advising the business on legal, regulatory and compliance risks.
It will involve working in a fast-paced commercial environment to ensure strategic and business objectives are supported and delivered whilst legal, regulatory risks are monitored and controlled.
The role covers a broad spectrum of commercial activities, including contracts, financial services regulation, corporate and retail finance, data protection, corporate governance and reporting.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the legal team with the management of civil litigation matters, including instructing and liaising with external solicitors and courts.
- Support the provision of accurate and timely legal advice through research and the interpretation of law and regulation.
- Support the drafting of commercial contracts and other documentation.
- Participate on key business projects, as required.
- Produce, manage and organise information relevant for internal committee meetings
- Support in the annual review of legal policies and procedures.
Principal Contacts / Working Relationships
The role will work closely with the In-House team of Regulatory and Commercial Lawyers who advise all areas of the business and work closely with our key stakeholders, brands and third-party suppliers.
Decision Making Scope
The role will be supervised in terms of the advice to the business but with autonomy in other areas.
Key Challenges
- Must demonstrates an understanding of regulatory principles, and be able to use external sources and resources to assist with interpretation.
- Organisational skills and the ability to work with often confidential and/or commercially sensitive topics.
Education, Training and Experience
- Excellent A-Levels or equivalent.
- Studying towards a Law or Business-related degree (although, we welcome applicants from all degree backgrounds provided they have a desire to pursue a legal career).
- Previous Office experience desirable, but not essential.
Skills and Personal Characteristics Required
- Good interpersonal and team player skills.
- Resilient and self-motivated with the capability to work under own initiative.
- Ability to learn and apply new or unfamiliar knowledge quickly.
- Methodical, analytical and disciplined approach to work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Comfortable asking questions.
