IT Services Placement
Primary Purpose of the Job
The IT Services Undergraduate role aims to provide students working towards an IT-related degree with practical experience in a forward-focused IT department. This position allows students to understand how our business operates, build relationships with other functions, and make a tangible impact through problem-solving and hands-on experience with a range of technologies, systems, and services.
Main Responsibilities
IT Service Desk (First 3 months)
- Provide first-line support to all users, working to resolve all issues quickly and efficiently, and escalating to the second line of support when necessary.
- Understand and apply where applicable the different methodologies, tools, and processes used in IT.
- Work with business users to determine their requirements and translate them to IT solutions.
- Work closely and build good relationships with business representatives, application users, and all areas of IT.
Application Management Services (Next 3 months)
- Gain insights into application support and management processes for SAP, Web BI (Business Intelligence), Local Business Applications, and PowerCurve Collections.
- Assist in resolving application-related incidents and service requests.
- Collaborate with different teams to ensure the seamless operation of critical business applications.
Events Monitoring Team or Specialised System/ Product team (Final 6 months)
- Continuously monitor the performance and availability of IT systems and applications using Splunk and AppInsights
- Set up and maintain dashboards to visualize system health, performance metrics, and key indicators.
- Proactively detect system anomalies, performance issues, and security incidents through real-time alerts.
- Configure and manage log data ingestion from various sources into Splunk.
- Design and develop custom dashboards and reports tailored to specific operational and business needs.
The main responsibilities of working in a specialised system or product team will depend on the teams function and product.
Principal Contacts / Working Relationships
Business Representatives and Application Users
Work closely with business users and application users to understand their requirements and translate them into IT solutions.
IT Team Members:
Collaborate with various IT teams for seamless operation and support of business applications.
Decision Making Scope
- Provide first-line IT support and determine when to escalate issues to second-line support.
- Assist in resolving application-related incidents and service requests.
Key Challenges
- Adapting quickly to the fast-moving industry where technology is at the core of delivering services and innovation.
- Balancing independent work with team collaboration.
- Managing multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently.
- Understanding the application landscape and associated business areas
Education, Training and Experience
- Working towards an IT or Business-related degree.
- A general understanding of IT, with a technical mindset
- Good customer service skills
Skills and Personal Characteristics Required
- Excellent communicator, both verbal and written.
- Able to take ownership of problems and issues to proactively meet a resolution.
- Flexible in work approach, both independently and within a team.
- A motivated individual who is able to work under their own initiative with minimal supervision.
- Team player.
- Demonstrable knowledge of IT disciplines.
