Marketing Communications Placement
Primary Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the Marketing Communications Undergraduate is to review and approve financial promotions including retail marketing materials, TV, web content, video and social activity for all VWG brands, in adherence with regulatory rules as outlined by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The role will provide helpful and timely feedback to Marketing Managers and agency colleagues ensuring that required amendments are made and processes are followed within set SLA’s. The role will support in the creation and supply of promotional terms and conditions and support the Marketing team with checking key regulatory information for the timely launch of tactical finance offers, events and campaigns.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the review and approval of all FCA financial promotions across national and local channels, including digital, print, TV, radio and point of sale.
- Be the dedicated subject matter expert (SME) for financial promotions, managing the approvals process end-to-end ensuring all materials are reviewed within set SLA’s and are clear, fair and not misleading.
- Manage and monitor workflows, assigning all inbound jobs and enquiries to relevant departments across Marketing, Compliance, and Campaign Development teams.
- Support in creating training materials and delivery of regular training webinars and workshops to VWG brand marketing teams and marketing agencies relating to regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
- Assess competitor (and outside of category) financial promotions activity to benchmark and assess opportunities for improvements.
- Creates and distributes financial promotions guidance to the VWG retailer network.
- Support the updates to VWFS UK advertising guidelines, ensuring any new regulation and changes to advertising approach are accurately represented.
- Work collaboratively with Marketing Managers to respond to marketing briefs, creating clear project and agency briefs, keeping stakeholders updated as required, delivering projects timely & to budget as needed.
- Support Rent-a-Car Marketing Manager with social calendar and community management reviewing and responding appropriately within given timeframes.
Principal Contacts / Working Relationships
- Reports to Marketing Manager - making regulatory decisions and recommendations to improve financial promotions to deliver good customer outcomes.
- Undertakes daily collaboration with Marketing Managers, Campaign Development Executives, VWG Marketing, Digital teams and VWG creative agency leads to provide feedback, respond to challenges and provide status updates on financial promotions.
- Collaborates with Compliance and Legal teams on financial promotions and updates to advertising guidelines and regulatory changes.
- Works with stakeholders of all levels across multiple areas in the wider business and in the Volkswagen group brands in the development of financial promotions and advertising standards.
Decision Making Scope
- Reviews and approves all VWG financial promotions before publication to customers. Has the authority to decline and escalate issues on advertising materials.
- Manages end-to-end process of all financial promotions, determining prioritisation of assets and workflows across departments.
Key Challenges
- Keeping up to date knowledge on FCA regulatory standards relating to financial promotions.
- Managing the workflow of high volumes of financial promotions, ensuring SLA’s are kept and challenges are responded to quickly.
- Ensuring a quality output delivery in keeping with stakeholders’ expectations (VWG marketing teams, VWG creative agencies and VWFS Marketing Managers.) and within the regulatory framework in which VWFS operates.

Skills and Personal Characteristics Required
- Exceptionally high-level attention to detail. Is able to review and cross-check complex information and identify any errors or areas for improvement to deliver good customer outcomes.
- Excellent at working under pressure within SLA’s. Able to remain calm, organised and pragmatic when faced with multiple priorities.
- Relationship and collaboration skills - ability to develop and sustain positive and co-operative working relationships with a broad variety of internal and partner personnel.
- Possesses technical, analytical and problem solving skills. Confident at identifying friction points in financial promotions and pro-actively proposing and implementing solutions to optimise for customers.
- Communication skills – superior oral and written communication skills required; must be able to confidently present and communicate effectively.
- Excellent team player, able to interact cross-functionally at different levels within the organisation.
