Overview:

This Level 4 Cyber Security Engineer Apprenticeship at Ignition Technology based in Farnborough offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build a strong foundation in IT. Blending practical training with academic learning, you’ll develop key skills in IT infrastructure support, troubleshooting, resolving SOC alerts, and system optimisation - all while earning industry-recognised qualifications.

​As a Cyber Engineer Apprentice, you’ll join a forward-thinking organisation specialising in cutting-edge IT security and networking solutions. You’ll work with innovative technologies, focusing on Cloud and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions, and gain exposure to advancements from our diverse range of vendors.

Collaborating with experienced professionals, you’ll contribute to daily operations and learn to manage complex IT systems. This apprenticeship is an ideal pathway to a successful career in the technology sector.

​Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for both internal and external users, responding to enquires and resolving technical issues.
  • Provide technical support and assistance on internal infrastructure, you and your peers.
  • Collaborate with your colleagues to resolve a range of SOC generated alerts.
  • Assist in the configuration, development life cycle, and maintenance of approved internal software.
  • Troubleshoot and help avoid downtime on both the internal network, and internal website.
  • Document IT processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides to help maintain an efficient team and an organised company.
  • Participate in projects by contributing to the planning, testing, and implementation phases.
  • Stay up to date on the latest Cyber Security and Information Technology news and trends to enhance technical capability for both.

Desirable skills:

  • A driver’s licence is suggested due to location.
  • Evidence of self-study, such as completion of online courses (e.g., through platforms like Coursera, Udemy, or Cyber Discovery).
  • Understanding of basic networking principles (e.g., IP Addressing, DNS, Firewalls).
  • Exposure to ethical hacking tools or cyber security software (e.g., Wireshark, Metasploit).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Okta, Salesforce).
  • Basic understanding of computer systems, networks and cyber security concepts.
  • Familiarity with operating systems, such as Windows and Linux.
  • Awareness of common cyber security threats (e.g., phishing, malware, ransomware).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic IT issues.
  • Basic proficiency in using Microsoft Suite & IT management tools.
  • Clear communication, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail.

Entry requirements:

  • An A-Level in ICT.
  • OR an International Baccalaureate at Level 3 in ICT.
  • OR a Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject.
  • OR a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits).

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Working hours:

Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 5pm.
