Register Your Interest: Summer Internships – BAE Systems

Programme:

12‑week summer internships in defence, aerospace and security

What you'll gain:

  • Practical experience working on pioneering, real‑life projects
  • Immersive induction preparing you from day one
  • Dedicated graduate buddy and line manager support
  • Regular feedback alongside access to development courses via online platforms
  • Potential fast‑track to our graduate programme without needing to reapply (dependent on performance and availability)

Salary:

Starting from £24,300 (pro rata)

Eligibility requirements:

  • You must be on course for at least a 2:2 bachelor’s degree in a related subject
  • Graduates (who complete before the internship begins) should apply to our graduate programmes instead
  • We’re an inclusive employer and encourage people from a wide range of backgrounds to apply
  • Many roles are subject to security and export control restrictions; your nationality, past nationalities or place of birth may affect eligibility
  • All applicants must meet at least Baseline Personnel Security Standard
  • Some roles require higher-level national security vetting, which typically involves 5 to 10 years of continuous UK residency depending on the clearance level required

What to expect:

From day one, you'll be fully immersed in real-world, hands‑on projects creating next‑generation security products and technology. The programme includes:

  • A structured induction and access to undergraduate and graduate communities
  • Peer support through a graduate buddy and line‑manager guidance, plus regular performance feedback and development opportunities
  • Networking events and forums across locations
  • Buddy schemes, mentoring, and skills training
  • Flexible working options—on-site, hybrid, or remote, depending on your role

Application process & timeline:

  • Recruitment opens in early September each year—early application is recommended, as popular roles may close early
  • The process begins with an online application, followed by virtual assessments (including gamified challenges and video questions)
  • Successful candidates are invited to either virtual or face‑to‑face interviews
  • The internship begins in June 2026

Benefits:

  • Competitive pro‑rata salary from £24,300
  • Networking opportunities across multiple locations
  • Structured mentoring and training programmes
  • A potential route into our graduate roles

Eligibility & expectations summary:

  • Open to students in their penultimate or final year of a UK undergraduate degree
  • Must not graduate before the internship start date
  • Strong commitment to diversity—candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply

Application tips:

  1. Choose an internship aligned with your academic strengths and career goals
  2. Keep your application concise and focused on your achievements
  3. Include clear details of your degree modules, work experience, and final‑year projects
  4. Proofread carefully and ensure all sections are complete
