We spoke to Niamh, a Field Technician Apprentice here at Virgin Media O2. She told us a little bit about what she does day-to-day as a Field Tech and what she enjoys about the role and working at Virgin Media O2. Here’s what she had to say...
What did you do before Virgin Media O2? How did you get here?
I worked as a manager at a supermarket, and I saw this apprenticeship scheme and thought it was a great opportunity.
What does a typical day in your life look like within the Field Tech Apprenticeship role?
As a Field Technician, I install broadband tv and phone in customers' homes and fault find - this consists of things like checking and changing connections and in some cases going back to the cabinet or pit and checking for damaged ports and F connections.
What is life at Virgin Media O2 like?
The work-life balance is what attracted me as every 3 weeks you get 5 days off, which means I can see my friends and family more often. My team at Virgin Media O2 are great and they were very welcoming.
Can you share some specific highlights of the work?
The training with my mentor was really good fun and this helped me settle into the job.
Where would you like to progress in the future?
I would like to do something more technical or even a managerial role!
Do you have any tips for someone trying to get into your scheme?
Don't worry about previous experience as there is lots of training to get you up to speed during the apprenticeship.
