School Leaver Programme

How did you apply for TUI UK&I?

How did you apply for TUI UK&I?

I originally heard about the scheme when the current school leavers at the time had come to my Sixth Form to do a presentation on it. I applied online during one of my tutor lessons whilst everyone else was working on their university statements and applications.

What was the induction like?

The first week starting a new job and being in a completely new environment is always daunting! The first week was filled with inductions with people I’ll be working closely with, presentations, information on the company, and of course starting to learn the ropes. TUI’s induction was very well organised with a ready prepared timetable for me.

What do you do on a daily basis?

It really does depend on what day it is as I have 2 very different roles in the Thomson Cruise department. In a very big nutshell however, the things I do on a daily basis are to help get ready for a new season launch. I deal with ad-hoc queries that come in, run and deal with finance reports, manage the production of our Future Cruises brochure, liaise with the teams onboard, get our shore excursions priced and online… Just to name a few!

What do you enjoy most?

The team I work in is a great one, everyone says that about their team, but I always think mine is hard to beat! I also really enjoy having 2 different roles as I have to do completely different tasks for each.

What skills are necessary to perform well?

I think having good time keeping skills is a necessity for working here, as the industry is such a fast paced one and we really need to be sticking to deadlines in order to keep up. Other skills which are necessary such as email communication and using programmes such as Excel is useful, but can also be learnt quickly here.

What advice would you give to someone applying to TUI UK&I?

What advice would you give to someone applying to TUI UK&I?

Don’t be afraid to show your passion for working here or in the industry. It’s good to be knowledgeable of the industry and of TUI, but having a good attitude is also very important. Also, make sure you back up everything you’re saying with examples where possible.

How has TUI school leaver programme affected your career prospects?

TUI is such a giant in the travel industry; it really does seem like there’s a world of opportunities. I still don’t 100% know what I want to do in the future, but I feel with this in my pocket, I can probably take it anywhere and run with it.
