Why did you choose to do a BrightStart Apprenticeship at Deloitte?
I grew up in London and then moved to Bahrain to be closer to my family. I initially planned to go to university to become a solicitor, but I was ineligible for a student loan due to my years away from the UK. There was no way I could afford university, but I didn’t want to give up on my dream, so I decided to apply for the BrightStart scheme. When I got the call from Deloitte accepting my place on the solicitor apprenticeship, I didn’t hesitate to accept. It’s a big bonus that the apprenticeship plays on my style of learning – hands-on and learning from others. Plus it’s debt-free.
What do you do at Deloitte and what do you enjoy about it?
I work within a team of Deloitte Legal solicitors from diverse legal backgrounds who support my work with clients, working on immigration issues. From day one I experienced an open culture of learning and asking questions. Training and learning is embedded through my work and Deloitte Legal has a great team of intelligent and approachable people. Even though I’m young, everyone treats me as an adult and an important part of the team.
