Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

I worked on my commercial project. I got a chance to see what life as a trainee is like in the firm. I was also given the chance to do tasks that a trainee would do. I was introduced to different people in the firm and attended online sessions to learn more about the firm and the type of work Shoosmiths do.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

I was given a chance to speak to different trainees and different lawyers at the firm. I was able to ask questions to everyone to find out what type of work they did and how they enjoyed it. I was able to find out more about the firm and how the firm is moving forward. I heard from trainees that the firm is very good at listening to trainees regarding their seat choices.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I developed my letter writing skills. I was shown how to write cover letters and how to complete different forms. I developed my commercial awareness skills through the project as well as developing my presentation skills.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture is by far the best I have seen. Everyone was really approachable and happy to talk to the interns. Everyone made me feel welcome and were keen to show me what it is like to work at the firm. I really enjoyed the open plan offices and it was really good to see how approachable all the partners and senior associates were.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and getting to know everyone. I really enjoyed the creative elements and getting to make the tiktok style video. I really enjoyed learning more about the culture of the firm and the work that was available. It was an amazing experience where I was made to feel welcome throughout. I was sad when the week had ended as I feel this is a place I would really want to work.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Shoosmiths

Research the firm and the culture of the firm. This is very important as culture is really important to the firm. You are not expected to know how to do legal tasks as all of this will be shown to you. Be enthusiastic about the firm and be yourself. Show the firm that you are someone they can work with and get along with.
