Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working within the Air System Safety Case (ASSC), Compliance and Quality Team. This involves tracking evidence that feeds into the ASSC, monitoring metrics, creating dashboards, helping prepare for audits and providing support to the BT&E leadership team.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given just the right amount of responsibility during my internship, whilst being guided at the same time. This meant there was always somebody on hand to help if I had any questions. Even as a new starter, I was given the opportunity to provide my opinion on how processes/documents could be improved. This made me feel like a valued team member from the beginning of my internship, which was great!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt how vital a comprehensive Air System Safety Case is from a safety and regulatory point of view. I have also learnt the process to stay compliant with regulations. The general workplace lessons I have learnt is how a workplace runs, how an audit is conducted, presentation skills and software skills (Centrik, Excel, etc).

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I was given a great amount of support and guidance during the internship. Whether this be face-to-face in office or people staying on at the end of WebEx calls to make sure I understood, I always had someone to ask questions when I had them. This really helped develop my knowledge and make me feel supported during a time where I was learning a lot of new things.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture within Boeing Test and Evaluation was great! From my very first day, everyone was extremely friendly and made me feel welcome right away. Each and every person is happy to help out if you have a problem/question, which really helps build a strong team.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my internship with BT&E! I would recommend anyone looking for an internship with an engineering/maths/science background to definitely consider the team!
