Overview of the Role
Overall, how would you describe your experience at Boeing UK?
It has been fairly disappointing, the variation between teams is huge. Some are really good and can help and develop you but a large number don’t and use you like an assistant. It is also really noticeable how high of turn over the scheme has and in the few years just after the scheme ends
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
It was very varied between teams. Sometimes you’re giving your own project unable to deliver a full thing by the end of the placement other times you were just a notetaker in the back corner. I was lucky I was able to work on some very interesting projects but that was not the norm.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

A significant of the work was just filler work. And it was really just, we need to give the Graduate work and a lot of it just being forgotten or unnecessary to the function/role of the team.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

Base pay is good but the lack of moving a relocation support to places around the United Kingdom and the lack of recognition in the dramatic changes in cost of living at all stage stages within the scheme leaves a significant amount to be desired as quite often you could end up out-of-pocket
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

Unfortunately, no very well. A significant amount of the grads leave the business several during their scheme and quite a few in the following months of just finishing it due to disappointing offers and opportunities. Saying that the opportunities to work at a large international corporation does offer good insight into how large businesses work and how large engineering projects function.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

Some teams had training budget other teams didn’t somewhere too busy to use it a really varied with some rules being no development to others being quite high so it was luck of the draw

Again, it varied wildly across teams but when there were some good ones and some bad ones, but there is always is
How is your work-life balance?

For most roles it is very very good and probably one of the best things just to organisation does but the down side is you may have to live in places whether there isn’t much life going on like a remote town, airbase and/or location
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

It is getting better, but they still sometimes struggle with the concept of one company working towards bigger goals. A lot of it can be lots of little components who can do their own thing and don’t wanna work with each other.
How would you rate Boeing UK initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

They were very good. They’re very accommodating. I do not have to utilise the services.
How would you rate Boeing UK CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

They support Steam ambassadors very very well and it is one of the areas which they try and give back to. They also attended significant event supporting school schools and other entities and it is very nice to see how much effort they put into it.

Would you recommend Boeing UK to a friend?
No
Why?
With significant turnover and heavy heavy inconsistency between opportunities it is almost like luck of the draw and the large costs you incur by moving don’t make the scheme a worthwhile endeavour
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

We were definitely miss lead. Something they did acknowledge and have tried to change it is also very disappointing when you speak to Graduate from earlier years and the range of opportunities they got access to which we no longer have.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Boeing UK?
The recruitment process was actually very good. You were due to respect and it was quick and you didn’t feel like you had to do too many jump through hoops.
