Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The first steps programme was highly insightful for aspiring solicitors. On day one I learnt more about Fieldfisher, who they were and what they stand for. This was insightful because it gave me an understanding of the firms culture. Also on day one I learnt more about the varying departments Fieldfisher have and the jobs available.
On day two I shadowed a member of staff in the dispute resolution department. It was a great experience.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was a valuable experience to learn all about the types of business Fieldfisher deal in as well as the potential roles associated to each department.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
On day one, I learnt more about the firm, how they work and what they stand for. This was useful to understand the firms culture. Furthermore , on day two I learnt about the work associated to the dispute resolution department, I learnt how to write legal documents and how to collect legal documents and serve them. It was a great experience to understand the proceedings that lawyers take to serve a matter.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was the stand out feature of the scheme. Everyone I met was extremely helpful , knowledgeable and kind. They seemed to really enjoy having an insight scheme as it gave them a platform to display their knowledge. This was really exciting for an aspiring solicitor.

I would really tailor your application to Fieldfisher as you really have to fit the firm as it is different to your standard London law firm. Also I would make sure you’re application highlights you’re personality and how your skills lend themselves to learning and thriving in this opportunity.
