Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The first thing we had was an introduction talk from a partner. The day then continued with a q+a panel and a lunch with trainees. We then had a department roadshow which involved talks from different associates and partners from different departments in the firm. We finished the day off with talks about diveristy and inclusion, pro-bono and ESG. We had a social that night and the next day consisted of work shadowing with a trainee.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was great to be able to understand the opportunities available to me within fieldfisher. I feel as though I now have a deeper understanding of how fieldfisher works as a business, I now understand their strategy and where they see themselves going in the following years. The work shadowing was extremely helpful for me to understand what my future career may look like, as the area which I was sitting in was very interesting.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I think I have learnt some new skills. Whilst I was doing my work shadowing I learnt how to analyse texts efficiently, and how to spot specific pieces of information in bigger amounts of reading. I also think I generally improved my reading skills as I had a lot to read in a small space of time. I also think my networking skills have improved throughout the two days, I feel as though I am now more confident.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture at fieldfisher is amazing. Everyone who I met was so friendly, and everyone was welcoming and happy to answer my questions. The general atmosphere is very relaxed and calm, which is not common for commercial law firms so it was nice to see such a difference compared to the other firms I’ve been to. The culture of the firm in general seems like a nice workplace where people are willing to help and support each other.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really did enjoy the insight. I have been to programmes similar to this one before, but the big difference for me in this programme was the size. There was only a very small group of us at this programme, which really allowed us to get to know each other well and also allowed us to ask any questions we wanted. The work shadowing was also a great addition as a lot of insight schemes don’t have this

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fieldfisher LLP
Make sure you research the firm well when applying. You should also try to be as genuine as possible within your answers, and make sure you put your 100% into your application. You should also try and be honest, they’re not looking for too much experience since it is a first year scheme. It is more about your character and what you can bring to the table which will get you into the next stage.
