Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

We heard from a range of Herbert Smith Freehills' partners, associates and trainees who gave us an insight into the firm's practice areas and its culture. We participated in some interactive workshops but mostly listened to talks such as on corporate and disputes case studies, diversity and inclusion and pro-bono work. We also got to shadow a trainee solicitor for the afternoon on the second day.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

During the time I was shadowing a trainee, I got to hear a lot about the roles within the department that they worked in and the opportunities for career development.

I gained more of an insight into the various practice areas that the firm has and the opportunity to hear first-hand from a range of partners and ask questions was invaluable.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture and general atmosphere was inviting and friendly. On both of the days, they assigned trainees to have lunch with us which was a great opportunity to chat informally and hear more about their work environment and experiences.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I really enjoyed the insight and got to know many other students in my position at other universities. The talks were very informative, and I thoroughly enjoyed the interactive workshop and if anything would have enjoyed more sessions like it.
