Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I work within a team who are the land agents for a high pressure aviation fuel pipeline across the UK. We liaise with landowners to arrange access for works on the pipeline, sort compensation, arrange site visits, discuss licence agreements, planning applications, infringements over the pipeline and much more. the variety of work that my placement brings really shows anything can happen whilst being in a surveying role

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

i was treated the same as a qualified surveyor so really thrown in at the deep end given the same workloads and tasks as a graduate would have which really helps you understand the role. the expectations are high but everyone is very willing to answer questions and help you out as they will have more experience than a placement such as myself

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

major developments in my communications skills, having to liaise with clients and figure out the best ways to go forwards with both client and landowner. my planning and organisation is alot better due to the amount of responsibility i have been given, but also working in a team to make sure the work load of projects is efficiently shared and no one is struggling. recognising other peoples workloads has also been beneficial

unlimited support. never felt like i could not ask a question and also no question was a silly question. willing to help you achieve your goals and help you learn and progress
