Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role is in R&D, supporting early stage research for the development of medicines. This involves carrying out experiments, data analysis, presentations to lab groups etc.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, once you are competent in your lab work, you are given more independence and responsibility to carry out your experiments.

Yes, I have developed my presentation as well as scientific writing skills. I have learnt new lab techniques and also increased my resilience and critical thinking.

Anyone is willing to help. My manager and lab team have been incredibly supportive and really got me through the low points as well as celebrated my achievements.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I am absolutely loving it and can highly recommend applying! It is such a change to uni and academic research culture. You will learn so much more by working with experts directly and gain so many skills from the relationships with your team. The science is excellent and it is an incredible stepping stone career-wise.

What advice would you give to others applying to GSK
Let your real you shine in your application. Make sure your values align with that of the company you are applying to, as this will ensure you are both a good fit and you will enjoy the culture, as it might slightly differ between companies. Enjoy the application process and learn from it. Don't be discouraged by rejection. Show your enthusiasm, love for science and that you are willing to learn.
