Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a Marketing and Events Coordinator within the Faculty of Business and Law Careers Team, I was responsible for helping to plan, promote and deliver Week 6: Get Career Ready, a large-scale employability event for students. On a day-to-day basis, this involved coordinating the careers fair, liaising with employers and university staff, creating marketing content and communications, uploading and managing event information on Career Hub, designing promotional materials, and supporting the operational planning of the event. I also worked on video content, social media campaigns, student engagement activities, and ensuring everything was in place for successful event delivery.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility throughout my internship. I led the planning and delivery of the careers fair, managed communications with employers and stakeholders, developed and implemented marketing campaigns, created promotional content, and took ownership of key aspects of event operations. I was trusted to work independently, make decisions, solve problems as they arose, and represent the Careers Team when working with both internal and external partners. This level of responsibility allowed me to develop strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.

I enhanced my marketing and communications skills by creating social media content, writing promotional copy, designing marketing materials, and developing engagement campaigns for students. I also built my confidence in stakeholder management by liaising with employers, university staff, and external partners. Additionally, I strengthened my organisation, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership skills by managing multiple deadlines, taking ownership of key projects, and helping to coordinate activities on event days.
