Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?

My first three months working for Balfour Beatty at the Dunard Centre has been very exciting and has given me the motivation to try my absolute best every day at work. Meeting my new colleagues and being exposed to all of their different roles has opened my eyes to what it takes to be successful, and how good teamwork and good team morale is essential for the delivery of a project. Everyone is very welcoming and they’ve all made me feel at home, and its no wonder why Balfour Beatty is so successful.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I am still very new to my role as a graduate construction manager therefore I haven't been given much responsibilities yet. I have however been tasked with carrying out surveys with a total station to monitor the movement of surrounding buildings, and I enjoy this responsibility as its a hands on task and important to the project. To add to this I have also been learning construction drawings, and this is another task which I've been enjoying as later on down the line when my knowledge of construction drawings is more advanced I will be able to snag and flag up potential errors that could occur on site.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
I've put 5 stars even though I'm still in a very early learning stage. I'm always happy to help my peers and they appreciate when I'm there to help.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
My company car is a great benefit of my job, and its easy to claim back on expenses such as travel and other work related costs.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
I couldn't have asked for a better start for my career in construction. The project I'm working at is a concert hall in the middle of my home city and i've joined in very early in the project, therefor I will be exposed to almost all stages of building. the project has a complex design, so in a way Ive been thrown in the deep end, which I feel as though is the best way to learn. My colleagues tell me "If you can handle a project like this you can handle any project" and that speaks volumes on the opportunity that I have been given at Balfour Beatty.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
I learn something new everyday working at the Dunard Centre. there is plenty to learn as a graduate here, and every day is different. On top of the skills I am learning whilst working to my PDR goals, I get given other small tasks which can vary in size and responsibility.
