Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Completed a variety of tasks including attending excellent training sessions, cash testing and talking directly with clients. The daily tasks allowed for fast development of excel skills, and the on-site work developed strong communication skills.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I would say I was trusted by the team to have responsibility over audit deliverables.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

The internship developed my communication skills strongly, having the opportunity to go on-site and speak directly with clients. It also highlighted the importance of team work in audit, learning how responsibility over certain deliverables contributes to a cohesive audit process.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received multiple training sessions which demonstrated how to carry out routine audit tasks, such as testing cash. Additionally, I was given access to online learning platforms that explained accounting fundamentals and key skills required for audit.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture was immediately inviting, with the welcome event reflecting the friendly atmosphere that Grant Thornton is renowned for. This continued throughout the internship, where I always felt confident I could ask any question and approach senior staff to learn more.
