Audit Intern Review

I was contributing towards audit deliverables with the team and the client I was assigned to. I completed testing for different elements of the clients’ financial statement, communicated with the client in person and via the relevant sites, visited client site 6 times over the internship. I was contributing towards the engagement team closing out the audit and completing the relevant testing.

I was given responsibility in terms of being set up with a task and then going away and working on it myself. I also was trusted with communicating with the client, in person and online, encouraged to ask them questions when I needed more supporting documentation or had a question.

I have developed my excel skills, and learnt a lot of new shortcuts. I now feel much more confident using excel. My confidence in communication skills has been enhanced, due to constantly communicating with my Grant Thornton audit colleagues and also being able to communicate directly with the client.

I was really impressed with the support before and during my internship. Intermittent emails before I officially started really made me feel at ease. The training sessions ran by the early careers team were really thorough and prepared me well for understanding different aspects of audit and the corporate world in general. Colleagues in the Gatwick office were incredibly friendly, supportive, and always willing to answer my questions and explain stuff to me.

I think the GT culture is phenomenal. I kept saying, to colleagues and also on my LinkedIn post, that the culture didn’t just feel like something that is said it was actively achieved. Everyone was supportive of my being curious to learn, kind, and driven to doing the job well. Everyone was also incredibly friendly when I went to the summer social at the Oval with my office, before I had even started my internship.

I really enjoyed, and it exceeded all my expectations. I feel it was the best use of my summer.
