Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
The Graduate Scheme has provided an excellent platform for both personal and professional development. Working on a live project has allowed me to take responsibility for environmental compliance, ecological and arboricultural matters, waste management, and stakeholder engagement. Throughout the program, I have grown in confidence, improved my ability to navigate complex challenges, and developed strong communication and problem-solving skills. Most importantly, the experience has reinforced my passion for sustainability within the construction industry and prepared me for the next stage of my career at Balfour Beatty
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
The role combines technical environmental management with practical site-based problem solving. My responsibilities range from ensuring compliance with environmental requirements and managing waste-related processes to coordinating ecological and arboricultural works and engaging with project stakeholders. What I enjoy most is that no two days are the same. I enjoy building relationships across the project team, helping others understand environmental requirements, and seeing sustainability considerations translated into real actions on site. The role has also given me the opportunity to take on responsibility, develop confidence, and contribute positively to the project's environmental performance.

Why?
Balfour Beatty encourages it's graduates and apprentices to be the very best versions of yourself. The residential trip to the lake district encourages team building, confidence, leadership, initiative and networking. The site experience and skills you develop as well as support for chartership opportunities and role specific skill (Sprouts Program for sustainability graduates) have provided a great stepping stone for the rest of my career.
