Graduate Energy Surveyor Review

My experience at Savills has been very positive. As a Graduate Energy Surveyor, I have been given responsibility from an early stage while receiving strong support from colleagues across the Energy team. The work is varied, challenging and closely aligned with the UK's transition to renewable energy, which makes it both interesting and rewarding.

My role involves advising landowners, developers and lenders on renewable energy projects, including solar, wind and battery storage schemes. Typical responsibilities include preparing valuation reports, reviewing leases and legal agreements, undertaking site research, analysing planning and title information, and liaising with clients and other stakeholders.
The aspects I enjoy most are the variety of projects, the opportunity to work on nationally significant renewable energy schemes, and the mix of technical, commercial and client-facing work. I particularly enjoy valuation work and helping clients understand how renewable energy projects affect the value and management of their land assets.

I feel that I contribute meaningfully to projects and am trusted with responsibilities that have a direct impact on client work. My input is valued by colleagues, and I have regular opportunities to collaborate with experienced surveyors who actively support my professional development.

The role is providing excellent preparation for my future career. I have gained experience across a broad range of renewable energy and valuation assignments while developing technical knowledge, commercial awareness and client management skills. The experience is highly relevant to achieving chartered status and progressing within the profession.

The support available has been good. My line manager and wider team provide regular guidance and feedback, while still giving me the autonomy to take ownership of my work. Colleagues are approachable and willing to share their knowledge, which has been particularly valuable as a graduate. The APC/MRICS support and wider training opportunities have also been beneficial. The only area where additional support could be useful is further structured exposure to different service lines and sectors across the business.

Overall, my work-life balance is very good. The flexibility provided through hybrid working helps me manage both professional and personal commitments effectively. There are periods where workloads can be busy, particularly when working to client deadlines, but this is generally balanced by a supportive team culture and flexibility when needed.
