Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Each day began with a welcome from HR and then we proceeded to have the first talks of the day. These were from bankers in a range of positions, including analysts, managing directors and the CEO. Formats ranged from technical training, panel discussions, case studies and Q&A sessions. There were also parts of the designated to work on our project, network with our assigned buddies and with each other at networking lunches.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The week was intense but nonetheless definitely useful. We received talks from all business divisions (perhaps bar venture and growth banking which I would have been interested by) who gave a good overview of what the day today looks like as well as the particular skills required for the business section. The opportunity to speak one on one with our buddy was a great opportunity to ask candid questions about what working is like.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone made a huge effort to be friendly and all the people I spoke to were clearly personable and interesting people. It is clear that there is a very supporting culture, on the internship we had an analyst buddy and a senior mentor as well as the graduate team to consult throughout. The importance of diversity and inclusion were also stressed and we had the opportunity to ask different diversity networks about their experiences.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The insight programme was hugely enjoyable. The fast deadline and high expectations associated with the project meant I felt pushed but not overwhelmed during the internship - giving me an insight into life working in the bank. Everyone was very friendly and the other interns were sociable and not overly competitive.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lazard
Relax and enjoy the experience. Whilst there is project work to do and you want to do it to a high standard the intensity of spring weeks is quite often overstated. You do not need to show off or ask a question in every talk. It is fine to make mistakes in your presentation also. To succeed all that is required is to be genuinely interested and engaged with what has been organised for you.
