Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
It has been a good experience working at BB so far. They're a great employer and I've had some good engineering experiences so far.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Main responsibilities: Quality assurance and recording the works done by the operatives on site. Facing engineering challenges as they occur. Working with the client, designer, and various subcontractors to create and repair structures.
I've enjoyed working on construction sites so far and it's been nice to interact with different people from a variety of roles on a daily basis. As part of this role I get to travel around the UK a lot and I get to see lots of new cities and areas that I wouldn't have been to otherwise, which is very enjoyable.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

We work on lots of small construction site which means that everybody has to pull their weight, so even though I'm new I have to help out regularly.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

The compensation for this role is great. I get a company car as part of this role, with mileage covered. We also get accommodation and food expenses paid for when we're away on a construction site.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

We have excellent support towards becoming a chartered engineer, and regular follow ups with our supervisors on how to achieve this.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

Every day I'm learning something new, so I'm getting lots of new skills!

The balance isn't great because you work long hours and I'm away from home Monday - Friday if the site is far away.

Why?
It's a good place to work with great progression as an engineer. The compensation package is good as well.

I hadn't worked in this industry before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's pretty much what I thought it would be.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
The first few weeks of this job will be learning how to exist in the job! It isn't easy to adapt to living away all the time, but over time you get used to it.
