Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?

My experience at Balfour Beatty has been really great so far. I am learning something new everyday and no two days are the same. I don't have much knowledge or experience in construction and infrastructure but the team I am surrounded by are very supportive and always happy to answer any questions I have. I am thoroughly enjoying the whole process of learning everything including developing my knowledge in planning related software to the understanding the basic principles of construction and infrastructure.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

Responsible for assisting in the development and coordination of project schedules. Aims to ensure efficient use of resources, timely completion of tasks and adherence to project timelines. Contributes to the overall success of construction projects by facilitating effective planning and scheduling processes.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
I had a very warm welcome to the team when I first joined and was able to settle in very quickly. Part of my role requires me to communicate with the team from time to time which allows me to contribute meaningful feedback to my team and the project as a whole. I was given small, manageable responsibilities quite early into my role which has had a positive impact on the value I was bringing to the team.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
Having a company car has been the most beneficial since working for the company. It has made my commute very easy and less stressful. The whole process was very quick and efficient. Discounted gym memberships has also been very beneficial.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
Having biannual personal development reviews has helped me review the progress I have made in the company so far and set milestones and short term goals to develop my skills in my role.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
We follow a 70-20-10 approach where 70% of learning is done on the job, 20% is learning through others and 10% is learning through formal development such as courses, workshops and e-learning. And I have been doing exactly this, where I am learning the majority on site and in the office. I have also been automatically enrolled in e-learning and courses that are most appropriate for my role as a graduate planner.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
The support I receive is great from the company from my Line manager all the way down to IT support. Everyone is happy to help in any way they can and are very supportive and efficient. There is no such thing as a silly question and the environment that has been created welcome any and all questions.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
I manage my work-life balance quite well. I have time to focus on my physical wellbeing before/after work and mental health support is available throughout the company in many different forms.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

5/5
The general atmosphere and culture at work is very open, inclusive and welcoming. Everyone is friendly and open for any questions or concerns and all work together very well. We have easy access to a lot of resources whether that's anything to do with mental health to accessing information about the values of the company.

How would you rate Balfour Beatty initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
There are always some sort of webinar or talks going on that can be accessed company wide. It is made easily available and known via our own internal social platform and we are encouraged to take part in these talks. One particular talk that stood out to me was the talk on the importance of all things women's health where the event went through the topic and even made suggestions on how to manage women's health related issues and highlight what sort of help was available.

How would you rate Balfour Beatty CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
There are always opportunities to volunteer towards a good cause where we get 2 days of paid leave to volunteer. We have our own Social Impact Manager on our team who communicates all local volunteering opportunities via our social platform, emails and in person. So there is always some sort of initiative that we can partake in. These opportunities are inclusive of societal, environmental and ethical impacts on our local and wider communities.
