Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Fairly standard software engineering work. Writing code, reviewing, debugging, etc. Occasionaly meetings with mentor/team to discuss directions of the project. Some discussions with other teams where the project would touch/rely on their services.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Very much so, treated essentially the same as any other employee - just with a bit less access. Was expected to perform well, had a lot of freedom to design and code as I saw fit. Ownership of my work was expected.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Very much so. Both techincal and none. Improve my C++ knowledge, bash/python scripting, software design/engineering. Working within and across engineering teams.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

A very large amount. Had a mentor althroughout whom I would discuss the project daily. Was also easily able to discuss with the team lead (met once a week but could also speak whenever), broader team, and manager.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Incredible. I've never really seen anything like it - particularly at a company of this scale. You can truly reach out to and speak with anyone - and don't have to jump through hoops to contact a manager, etc.
