Overview of the Role
Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
Prior to joining, I was a broke student, originally hailing from a low income area of Aberdeen seeking a way into the professional side of the construction world. I was the first person in my family to attend University, and for 4 years I was working 2 part-time jobs in Edinburgh - all whilst studying for my degree.
Since getting the job from Balfour, my family has been so supportive and proud of me, especially for getting into a company that's so well-established. I've been treated well since day 1 on the job and certainly reaped the rewards of my hard work as a student, and appreciate how fortunate I am for the opportunity.
Since starting back in March, I've had so much exposure to several areas of the industry through my day-to-day responsibilities. I've also been to training events, and even joined in some community outreach events with colleagues.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy managing and leading meetings regarding monthly Project Progression, and I also like building my confidence and not be afraid to challenge proposed changes/extensions. I also really like the element of touching base with all the different departments; gaining a wider perspective on all of the active working parts of a project and engaging with all members of the team.
Although daunting, I actually quite like the monthly submission deadline aspect, as this pushes me to perform my best and to provide the most accurate records and plans of works to the client.
