Graduate Engineer Review

Amazing, there is a good balance between working on exciting and challenging day-to-day problems along with ample opportunities to for personal and formal career development. The grad scheme sees a large cohort all join at the same time to produce a large and friendly support network that helps in transitions into full-time employment.

I work in GPU Hardware, where I specifically work in the Verification Methodology team which is responsible for development and maintaining the processes and flow which other engineers should follow to improve the verification quality of new GPUs that we develop.

Currently, I contribute to the design and implementation of a GPU wide verification strategy for Performance Counters. This is significantly more responsibility that I expected as a starting graduate where I have completed the main implementation for the new flows that are required. I have become the main engineer responsible for this work which has led me to feel extremely valued by my team and allowed opportunities for me to expand my network during the deployment phase of the strategy.

The compensation package is very competitive with good opportunities for increases over the two year scheme. You have a guaranteed 6-monthly review cycle for the first two years which means there is an opportunity for 4 pay rises during your first year. We are also given shares in the company as a bonus on top of a scheme where employees can opt-in to buying discounted shares with their salary.

Great there are many opportunities through rotations to try out different teams within your wider group of the company to help you decide what you most enjoyed and to start structuring your future career. There is also plenty of growth opportunity within the company.

We have many different avenues for support within the company. You are assigned a line manager and buddy when you join and will have regular 1-2-1s with your manager. The buddy is there as a informal person you can talk to if required. Moreover, you might be assigned a tech lead or a mentor which is someone that you are likely going to be working more closely with than your manager and they are often a good source of support especially for technical development.

The work life balance at arm is amazing. There is not expectation to work long hours and overtime. The hybrid working style allows you to work from home 3 days a week if you prefer. Everyone follows flexible working so if you have to take an hour off for a GP or dentist appointment that is alright as you are just expected to make it back up during the week. There is also the graduate social committee which organises and funds some events for graduates to expand their networks and make friends.

Great. Everyone I have met at the company is extremely nice and friendly and willing to support a new graduate throughout my first year. They have been very supportive. The wider company culture runs on self ownership of an individuals work and the hybrid working policy ensures everyone has the flexibility to work at their best.
