Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I serve as an engineer on the Compute Efficiency team. I don't have a set, large-scale project to work on. Typically when I come in, there have been certain things that have come up from the days prior, and I look at them and examine what we can do to improve things, either for us or for all our engineers. Tasks may involve doing research on these topics that we can use to figure out where to go from, or developing solutions that we can use to help us improve things.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes - a lot of my work was fairly open-ended and very much up to me to work on entirely. There were some projects I worked on entirely myself, some I even proposed myself.

I've learned a lot about working with the cloud and with large-scale HPC systems, as well as corporate tools like Jira or Confluence, and generally what it's like to work in a large company.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
A lot, my manager has been pretty great and very friendly, I've been able to talk with him about pretty much anything. My team has also been very happy to help me with anything I've needed from them.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It's a great culture. Worklife is very relaxed, everybody has the ability to work hybrid, so long as our work is done we can be wherever we want if we'd like. Social events regularly happen, both at an intern/graduate level and at a company level. There are also a lot of inclusiveness initiatives going on too, and we have a very diverse group of people here who are all great.
