Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Code review of patches to the open source project (LLVM)
Research into the fixes / patches to implement in the project.
Writing code to implement and test the fixes
Meetings about the state of the team, plans and how our work relates to other companies.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I am surprised at the level of responsibility and level of work that I am given. It makes the experience very much worthwhile as if it wasn't like this, then I wouldn't be learning as much, which is the point of a placement.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt lots of new skills, some of these are as follows:
- Process of open-source contribution (IP review, and the formal process of making changes).
- New technologies and development tooling (Nix, automated testing, AWS, C++, LLVM)
- Inter-personal skills and being to work well and communicate within a team effectively, as well as ensuring morale is high and everyone is performing at their best.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Lots of support was provided, both through the intern program (which was responsive and really helpful and answered any question I had) as well as the team (which helped me onboard efficiently and quickly and learn a lot rapidly).

What advice would you give to others applying to Arm

To keep things simple. Applying to a big, influential company like Arm is very intimidating. Importantly, you cannot think about this, just apply and do your best. You can't ask for better than that and anything else is out of your hands.
