Packaging Development Intern Review

Being in the packaging development team, I supported the development of Modern Oral packaging solutions from concept through to commercialisation. This role focused on creating products that could be manufactured reliably at scale, requiring consideration of product performance, quality, cost and consumer experience.

Yes, I was given a high level of responsibility throughout my placement. I was trusted to lead my own investigation, make decisions on the direction of the work, engage with specialists across the business, and communicate outcomes to a range of audiences. Being given this ownership significantly accelerated my development and helped build my confidence as both an engineer and a professional.

I developed new technical skills in areas such as Siemens NX, prototyping, and manufacturing processes, while also strengthening my existing skills in engineering problem-solving, communication, and project management. A valuable area of growth was my confidence, particularly when presenting and networking.

I received a high level of support throughout my placement. My line manager and colleagues were always available to provide guidance, technical expertise, and feedback, while also giving me the autonomy to take ownership of my work. This balance helped me develop confidence, independence, and new skills while knowing I had a strong support network around me.

The company culture was supportive, collaborative, and development-focused. I felt trusted with meaningful responsibility while also having access to guidance whenever I needed it. Colleagues were approachable, willing to share their expertise, and genuinely invested in helping interns develop. The positive and inclusive atmosphere made it easy to learn, build confidence, and contribute to the team.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would highly recommend it. It provided the perfect balance of responsibility, learning, and support, allowing me to develop both technically and personally. I gained exposure to a wide range of experiences, and had the opportunity to learn from incredibly knowledgeable and supportive colleagues. Overall, it has been one of the most rewarding and influential experiences of my career so far.
