Sandwich Placement Student Review

Over my year at Savills, I worked within the Building & Project Consultancy team as a Placement Building Surveyor. My role involved assisting with a wide range of professional building surveying instructions, including undertaking site inspections, collecting survey data, preparing schedules of condition, reinstatement cost assessments, technical due diligence reports, dilapidations inspections etc.
On a day-to-day basis, I assisted with surveying properties, recording building defects, carrying out measured surveys, reviewing lease documentation and helping to prepare reports for clients.

My responsibility grew as the placement went on as I developed my skills and gained confidence. I've prepared my own sections of reports as well as carrying out my own dilapidations inspection.

I have developed both new and existing skills during my placement year. My technical building surveying knowledge has improved significantly through carrying out site inspections, preparing reports and assisting with a variety of professional instructions. I have also developed my report writing skills, becoming more confident in preparing sections of reports independently.

I got plenty of support / guidance throughout my placement year , which reduced as i got more confident as my placement went on.

the company culture , I'd say is good quite a clam atmosphere with several social events throughout the year.

I enjoyed my placement year as a whole, it's helped me worked out which parts of building surveying I enjoy and might want to specialise in later in my career.
