Sandwich Placement - Central London Retail Review

My role in the Central London Retail Leasing Consultancy team was to support the team across a range of commercial property instructions, helping to deliver advice to clients on matters such as lease renewals, rent reviews, regears and lettings. On a day-to-day basis, this involves analysing lease documents, researching market evidence, preparing reports and spreadsheets, speaking with agents and other property professionals to gather comparable evidence, and assisting with client communications. I also help maintain property databases, attend meetings and inspections when required, and support senior surveyors with ongoing projects. The role provides exposure to many aspects of the commercial property sector while developing my technical knowledge and professional skills.

Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility during my placement. As I became more familiar with the role, I was trusted to take ownership of a variety of tasks and manage them independently. This included carrying out market research, analysing comparable evidence, preparing reports and spreadsheets for clients, and liaising directly with agents and other property professionals to gather information.
I was also involved in live instructions relating to lease renewals, rent reviews, regears, and lettings, where my work contributed to the advice provided to clients. In addition, I attended property inspections and meetings, maintained key databases and trackers, and supported senior surveyors with ongoing projects. Having this level of responsibility helped me develop my commercial awareness, communication skills, and confidence in handling professional work within a client-facing environment.

Yes, I developed both new and existing skills during my placement. I strengthened my market research and analytical skills, while gaining a deeper understanding of commercial leasing and landlord and tenant matters. I also improved my communication skills through regular contact with agents, clients, and colleagues, and became more confident managing my own workload and working independently.

I received a high level of support throughout my placement. I worked closely with experienced surveyors who were always available to provide guidance, answer questions, and offer feedback on my work. As I gained confidence and knowledge, I was given more responsibility and encouraged to work independently, while still having support available whenever needed. This balance helped me develop both professionally and personally.
