Summer Scheme Student Review

I was part of the Guildford development team, which includes the valuation and agency sides. Day to day I have done a lot of Due diligence for different sites and transfer the files and data onto VWS. As my time has gone on I have done comparables, both rental and sales, where I would find the similar properties and have called agents in order to verify these transactions. I have also started doing more report writing adding text to the VWS files, reinstatement costs using BCIS and helped run a residual appraisal. A couple of times a week I attended site inspections for a variety of different types of developments. I would also join the team calls for the summer scheme.

Yes, I have had the responsibility of finding comps and confirming them, taking photos on site inspections and uploading and writing information and data into the VWS files ready for the final reports. I have also been able to meet clients and have been given tasks both in teams and independently, where I have been able to ask many questions if any help was needed or to increase my understanding of the tasks.

My communication skills have got better with meeting new clients and speaking to agents on the phone. My excel skills have improved so I have become more efficient throughout the process, improved my report writing skills and understand VWS, I understand all the importance of Due diligence and how and where to find data. I have learned how to use VWS for reinstatement costs. I have stated to understand all the processes that are carried out during an inspection.

Everything that was new to me was explained clearly and the instructions were clear on what tasks needed to be completed. The team was great, I was able to ask anyone questions at anytime if I was unsure or had questions about different areas in the industry.

Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. I spoke to everybody in the office and the team activities and office activities were very enjoyable and was nice getting to know everybody more. We did an office walk and picnic in the park. With my team, we had a lunch out together.

I have really enjoyed the summer scheme. It has taught me a lot about the industry and it has been great applying my knowledge and the work I have done and been taught at university be applied to real projects and seeing how everything comes together. \It has made me more excited for the future in pursuing a career in real estate, hopefully at Savills!
