Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I assisted the Planning team in the process of securing planning permissions for infrastructure development in the Southeast of England. The role involved working on the whole planning permissions process from early-stage site reviews; site visits; planning appraisal reports; preparation of a variety of planning application; post submissions monitoring and attendance of planning committees.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
A level of responsibility that matched my proactiveness. It was ensured that I was kept engaged throughout the scheme and whenever I sought more responsibility I was always given opportunity and support (often above and beyond).

Yes. I learned discipline specific skills (E.g., preparing Planning applications, conducting site visits, using the 'vocabulary' of planning), alongside foundational competencies (organisation, professional communication - verbal and written, time-management).

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
An above and beyond approach to support. Ensured I was independently learning whilst feeling confident that - if needed - I would be supported. Beyond my team, HR was exceptionally good and despite dealing with a cohort of over 60 + and uncertainties they provided a very very personal experience.

Make an effort to understand the company, its functions and what your strengths are. Once you know these things, it will be easy to find your niche at Savills because there is an abundance of opportunities - you just have to know what interests you the most.
