Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

On the first day, we were introduced to WTW and heard from the Early Careers team and a leadership keynote speaker. We completed employability and problem solving workshops, took part in networking sessions with other participants and former Level Up candidates, and finished the day with a team social activity.
The second day focused more on client skills and career development. We learned about client excellence through active and empathetic listening, practised answering interview questions using the STAR method, explored the importance of personal branding, and spoke with colleagues from different lines of business during a careers fair to understand what their roles involved on a day to day basis. The programme ended with a wrap up session outlining the next steps after completing the insight programme.

How would you rate the structure of the insight

4/5

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

One of the most valuable parts of the programme was gaining a much broader understanding of WTW as a business. Before the insight, I mainly associated WTW with insurance and risk management, but I learned about the wide range of services the firm provides and how different teams work together to help clients manage risk, develop employee benefits and make informed business decisions. The careers fair and panel sessions gave me the opportunity to speak with employees from different lines of business, which helped me understand what their day to day roles involved, the skills they use and the variety of career paths available. It made me appreciate how many opportunities there are within the business and helped me identify the areas that best match my interests and strengths.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I developed several skills during the programme. One new skill I learned was using the STAR technique to structure interview responses more clearly and effectively, which has made me more confident when answering competency based questions. I also developed a better understanding of active and empathetic listening through the client excellence workshop, which highlighted how important it is to understand a client's needs before offering solutions.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture came across as very welcoming, collaborative and supportive. From the beginning, everyone was approachable and genuinely interested in helping participants learn more about the business. Throughout the programme, employees were open about their own career journeys and encouraged us to ask questions, which created a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I really enjoyed the insight programme. It was a great balance of learning, practical activities and networking, so it stayed engaging throughout. I particularly enjoyed hearing from employees across different areas of the business, as it gave me a much clearer understanding of the variety of roles available and the different career paths within WTW. The interactive workshops on problem solving and client excellence were especially valuable because they allowed me to apply what I was learning rather than just listening to presentations.
