Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?

The job is fine and there is plenty of opportunity to grow, if relevant people responded to inquiries in a timely manner. More often that not people are extremely willing to assist and help out. On placement year, we were asked to fill out preferences of areas we would like to work, should we get a return offer - upon receiving the return offer it was clear that these preferences were not considered in the slightest, nor was the time between placement year ending and the graduate scheme starting, meaning that the return role offered, was not the most ideal.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I get to talk to a lot of people in the integration role, however, the role is not technical in the slightest which is a shame as that is where my interest and passion lie. Having said that, my Line Manager is understanding of this and is supportive when I try to gain experience in other bits of the company.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
The work that I am assigned is useful to the business and does help project progress.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
It is a great compensation package for a graduate. The Share Incentive Plan is probably the most valuable perk.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

2/5
I want a very technical role, which this role cannot provide. However this role allows me to learn essential context around projects, how they are managed, the type of steps that are required for successful programme delivery.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

3/5
The most useful skills that I have learnt are around dealing with people, communication skills and developing bigger picture thinking which are highly transferrable, however, also obtainable in other roles.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

3/5
My line manager is very supportive and encourages me to explore new teams and the wider business - which is exactly what I appreciate. Having said that, I have heard opposite experiences from a handful of graduates but that is for them to provide a review on. The general culture is good and friendly.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
It is very good.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
Great environment. On the whole people are quick to respond to inquiries but, as with anywhere, there is a minority who does not.

How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
Very good.

How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
Charity/fundraiser events are held which is very good.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Generally, it is a very good company with bright future prospects and the work life balance, compensation and culture are all great.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

1/5
I was offered a Systems Engineer role which I thought would be technical and real engineering. However upon starting my job role was changed to Integration Engineer which, in this case, is not technical at all - once again, reaffirming the need for early careers to genuinely account for returner preferences.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
