Overall, how would you describe your experience at Boeing UK?
Supportive environment with a clear willingness to train and retain early careers employees.
Varied work, some periods of downtime alongside busy periods. Well balanced.
Great networking and engagement opportunities - both within the early careers sphere and via STEM engagements.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Automation - Java and Python, automating test suites.
Project-based tasking - differed by rotation, but the agile methodology meant that you were always working alongside other teams. Ample opportunity to network and learn about other areas of the business.
SME engagement - connecting with experienced individuals, the majority of whom are more than happy to share their expertise and give time getting you up to speed.

Varied by rotation, but in all of mine I felt valued and trusted to deliver high impact work.

Compensation is generous and scales with experience.

Tasking is largely identical for graduates and full time employees of the same grade - therefore I felt well prepared for rolling off.

How is the support you receive?

Support from immediate teammates and managers has always been second to none. This breaks down however when other teams are understaffed and lack the capacity to assist (goes both ways). No fault of the individual but more of the market we are operating in.
How is your work-life balance?

Fantastic. Work-life boundaries are respected and the flexible working hours are great.
Commute is not ideal but would be similar for most defence companies stationed in Filton, and the hybrid work schedule helps.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

Feels like we are at a turning point now after several years of some difficulty.
The commitment to redefining the culture and values at the C-suite level should be commended, but it feels like there is some work to be done with regards to flowing down to individual teams.
This largely stems from the lack of capacity of teams - difficult to foster an innovative environment if there is not the time nor resources to explore. Graduates are slightly exempt from this and are often given these resources, but largely depends on the team and workload.
At a local level, atmosphere is mixed, but likely symptomatic of the economy as a whole.

When I joined, I would have given this a score of 5.
Unfortunately due to reasons beyond our control, our key resource groups have been defunded. I hope that we will one day see the return of these groups alongside new inclusion initiatives.

The business unit seems very engaged locally - STEM activities and engagements with schools in the area are widely encouraged (and actioned) which is nice to see.

Why?
There is space to grow, and the flexibility offered to you as an early careers employee is rare.
You are able to decide on your own path - managers are not precious about holding on to you in a certain department. You are very much encouraged to reach out and build connections with other teams, and are supported in making a career transition.
