Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I worked on the Lynx Brand team assisting on the 2026/27 shopper marketing plans, influencer partnerships & sampling activity, as well as several other workstreams such as OOH Media, Social Media & TV.
I worked with the other brand teams and various Unilever functions to discuss plans, opportunities and insights, further developing our Brand plans from both a marketing POV, but also in regard to commercial strategy.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a significant amount of responsibility very early on, but also received a great amount of guidance on how to tackle projects and develop my hard and soft skills.
They were very good at scaling my work to ensure I continued to develop, never feeling like I was waiting for something to do or more responsibility on key projects.
They gave me a great balance of work that helped develop my weaker areas or knowledge gaps, as well as allowing me the autonomy to ask for and lead on passion projects that really allowed me to leverage my strengths.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I developed my ability to organise/prioritse my work and time. I learned a great deal about the FMCG industry and how brands function holistically.
Some of the hard skills I developed were project management, communication, budget tracking & performance analysis, agency management and relations, managing cross functional teams & stakeholders and event planning.
My biggest development takeaway has to be my confidence and trust in myself to manage difficult projects end-to-end, as well as presenting to senior stakeholders.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever

At the beginning I felt very out of place and developed a strong sense of imposter syndrome. If I could do it again I would place far more confidence in myself and what I could offer. Some great advice I received was to tell yourself you're a few work levels (Seniority levels) above your current position. This made me far more comfortable assuming leadership roles and adding to discussions I would have previously held back on. - In the end everyone I knew vastly outperformed & exceeded what they thought they could do, so trust yourself.
