Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role was in digital and AI enablement. This meant helping the company from a digital perspective to improve procurement performance for buyers. This would involve meetings and emails alongside creating powerpoints to present to stakeholders within the team. I drove adoption of key tools within procurement and made buying more effective for unilever.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, starting off with co-leading a project and then as my experience grew I led my own project, including managing timelines, communicating with stakeholders and ensuring smooth completion of the project. As a placement student I was not expecting to be running my own project which has been very valuable for me.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received support and guidance from management and colleagues in the team. However there was not many people based in my office from my team so this did make it difficult to collaborate and receive support and guidance at points. However I was always pushed to achieve things within the company which has really improved my professional skills.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed my placement as I gained real professional skills and soft skills that I wouldn't have gained without doing this placement. Also I learned about digital tools and AI and how to lead a project which is something I hadn't done before. However I feel that I could have been given better leadership and sometimes required more support rather than doing things on my own.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever

I would give the advice to do your research on the company before you go to an assessment centre, show an interest in what the business is doing and how the business is trying to do those things. If you are to prepare any documents for the assessment then spend time on them as this will show in the interview. Show that you are a friendly person and that you have the soft skills that is required to collaborate.
