Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

It was a great year and one of the most important things I've ever done, I have developed and achieved far beyond what I thought I would do. Socially it is tough as in the beginning you only need to be in 2 days a week, so even if people live quite far away they probably won't relocate, it's harder to make friends as nobody wants to stick around after work if they have a 2 hour commute home, and are with their home friends. It is 3 days in the office now so I'm hoping for the sake of future IP's more people relocate and even if out of lack of choice more IPs make friends and hangout after work/on weekends.
In finance at least, you are an analyst, don't expect to be making decisions and doing super important stuff all the time, you create insights and data, put the hours in doing the ground work. You have your moments, in terms of the brands I have made my own decisions many of times and have a lot of ownership but this is one of the only areas.

Please rate your level of enjoyment on your placement / internship

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever

Line manager is the biggest factor, everybody I know who has had a terrible time has linked their line manager experience into that, everybody I know who has had a great time mentions how great their line manager is.
This is something you cannot really control and is the risk you take, on the most part everybody seems to have at least okay line managers.
Work hard and don't apply to a role you aren't passionate about, this is a real company, real money and responsibilities, you can't do half a job because you don't really enjoy it, when you accept the offer to work here you have to be prepared to give it your all for a year.
